Music, Movement, Mindfulness:

  • Music:

Drumming and sound has been used for healing in cultures all around the world for thousands of years. Drumming is an ancient indigenous practice that is also an evidence-based practice, meaning that research studies have shown that it does amazing things for our health and wellness. Drumming boosts the immune system, lowers stress and burnout rates, improves mood, and enhances creativity and bonding within groups. A large assortment of instruments will be provided and no experience is necessary! The drumming will be a facilitated process where our different rhythms can come together. It will be easily accessible, engaging, meaningful, and fun!

Sound Healing is another ancient wellness practice for healing, relaxation, and self-care. A sound bath involves laying down and allowing the vibrations of various instruments to wash over you and “bathe” you with sound. Singing bowls, chimes, gongs, flutes, and drums all have healing vibrations that raise the vibration of your own cells in your body. Healing sounds can slow down your brain waves and put your body into a very relaxed, dreamlike state. Having a sound bath after a session of drumming allows your body and mind to integrate all that has been learned and experienced through the drumming.

    Movement:

Movement allows us to get out of our heads and into our bodies. Moving your body is a way to pay attention to your senses, both inside and out. Stress and trauma are stored in our bodies and we can use our bodies to release them. Intentional healing movements can help us to move emotions through our body, to let go of what no longer serves us, to not be preoccupied by our thoughts, and to access our inner wisdom.

We will be exploring traditional healing movements such as yoga and qigong. The movements will be gentle and accessible for all body and fitness types.

    Mindfulness:

Ruminating about the past causes depression. Worrying about the future creates anxiety. Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment, without judgment. It helps us to get out of autopilot and to live our lives with more awareness and intention.

Everything we will do at this retreat will involve mindfulness. Exploring music and movement, connecting with nature, savoring delicious food, self-exploration with ourselves, bonding with others, and soaking in hot springs.
